Where one improvement starts pulling the next one forward, and individual experiences begin asking for more intention and stronger connections.
It works but still feels like you’re inside a tumble dryer
You got your course to sell. At first, it feels like things are finally working.
You have a product and clients are coming in. Yippee! 🤩✨
You have probably launched at least a few times already to get here. People are getting results, and little by little, you are learning more about your audience and what they actually need.
Technically speaking, the system works.
Mostly.
And yet…
Something starts feeling slightly off.
Nothing massively broken, but just a little clunky. Managing all that’s happening is proving to be more time-consuming than it used to be. Your process starts to feel a bit awkward in places. Why?
You are getting used to patchworking fixes to individual pieces of your system so it keeps things running.
A little duct tape here. Some twine there. An emergency fix in one corner of the system while hoping nobody notices the elephant snot holding another piece together 😁…
And honestly? There is nothing wrong with that.
Patchwork got you this far.
But at some point, you start noticing that keeping things together is suddenly taking way more energy than it should.
And somewhere in the middle of all this, a new feeling appears: “I just want things to flow better.”
Growth starts exposing the next thing
This stage can feel confusing because every improvement suddenly seems to reveal another thing that now feels outdated.
You improve one thing…
…and almost immediately something else pops up demanding attention.
Not necessarily because anything is totally popped off, but because growth changes standards.
Both you and your expertise have evolved.
Your understanding of your clients has evolved.
And naturally, your systems start little by little giving you signs to catch up.
After a while, an unsettling thought might creep in: Everything feels wrong.
But in reality?
You’re growing. Growth is simply exposing the next thing you need to see.
And as strange as it sounds at first, that is actually extremely helpful (if you listen).
This is your business showing you where to focus next.
How wonderful this sort of hidden, inbuilt automation is!
One improvement pulls the next one forward
One of the most interesting things about this phase is noticing how improvements start creating little chain reactions.
You improve one area, and suddenly you notice that another connected step feels like it is speaking a completely different language.
For example, you finally understand your people better. You have worked with more clients, listened to feedback, refined your expertise, and suddenly your messaging becomes much clearer.
All that leads naturally to your copy getting better and sharper, more targeted.
You finally know how to explain what you do in a way that actually resonates.
Yay! But then you notice…
The visuals are still speaking about an older version of your business.
And you find yourself wondering and worrying if anyone will even stop to read this improved message, if the visuals are attracting the wrong people or creating the wrong expectations?
This is the visuals gently asking to catch up.
Or maybe it happens the other way around:
You finally invest in better visual branding. The business starts looking more aligned with your level of expertise. Everything feels more professional and more intentional.
But then the insides of your products suddenly feels a bit… basic and generic, not like the new way at all. Or it feels tangled and slightly disconnected from the way you now talk about it.
You start noticing things you didn’t think much about (or have time to think about) before: onboarding, structure, clarity, guidance, and the overall feeling clients get once they arrive. Not optimal!
One more example, so you see how widespread this can be:
The same thing might be happening once you have perfected your product based on all the feedback. The transformation it delivers is much stronger now.
But you can now see that the sales process feels outdated and that the nurture no longer reflects the experience people are actually stepping into. Uhh!
And this is where something important begins to happen:
You stop seeing random pages and disconnected pieces.
You start noticing experiences.
Which is absolutely beautiful next phase of your and your businesses growth!
Workflows sound really good at this point
And no, I do not mean the giant, beautifully engineered machine yet. That comes later.
At this stage, you are still good refining things one experience at a time.
This is where individual workflows start making sense.
Not as complicated systems. But as smoother client experiences.
Instead of fixing only a sales page, you start thinking about the whole experience around it:
💠 How does someone first notice you?
💠 How do they get to grow to trust you?
💠 How could they naturally move into the right offer?
💠 What happens after they buy?
💠 Do they feel guided? Held? Supported?
You start refining one continuous flow from beginning to end.
Maybe it is a lead magnet funnel or a sales funnel.
It could be how you nurture people first coming in.
Possibly the way people move through your product.
Whatever it is, you stop randomly fixing pages and start improving one connected experience at a time.
This is your next level.
Everything starts to feel like it’s moving along much more smoothly.
Not perfect (no need to pressurize yourself for that 😉). But smoother.
Your clients are teaching you what matters
This stage is where client feedback becomes even more valuable than when you were still fixing individual pieces of the puzzle.
You are no longer building from pure guesses.
Now you have:
- Feedback
- Experience
- Analytics
- Real observations
You start noticing patterns.
That is, if you're paying attention 😉...
People keep asking the same question and get stuck in the same place. One transition feels confusing. Something people loved in your head is getting ignored in real life.
You have actual numeric data you can study to learn more.
This is all a communication that needs to be heard. Your business is talking to you.
You know enough by now to instead of trying to reinvent everything, this is the time to start refining intentionally. Best results come when you focus on one thing (funnel, experience) at a time.
This is where you build and polish with much more confidence.
Not because you suddenly know everything.
But because you finally have real information to guide your decisions.
The discomfort is a sign of growth
I think this phase often feels uncomfortable.
Exciting, yes.
But uncomfortable too.
It is a little bit like growing, wearing the same clothes that used to fit a year ago.
Things technically still work, but it’s starting to feel a bit tight and certainly awkward enough to make you a bit frustrated with the whole situation.
You know things could work better, and you can really feel the growing pains.
Yeah, it’s changing.
That discomfort is a sign that you are growing. A good pain.
Notice it’s NOT a sign of you failing. You are simply outgrowing the earlier version of your business.
You’re right smack bang in the messy middle.
One thing at a time
This is probably the most important thing I want to say to everyone at this phase:
Please do not try to fix everything at once.
💎 You do not need to rebuild your business every six months.
💎 You do not need to redesign every page, rewrite every funnel, and reinvent every process overnight.
Growth is already showing you the next thing that is craving for your attention.
Your job is simply to notice it.
Pick one funnel. One experience. One workflow.
And improve that from beginning to end, building on top of what you’ve already got refining it. The thing that’s already working will soon work smoother.
Let the learning compound.
Then move to the next thing.
Give yourself grace and time. Trust your own process.
Something worth remembering here is that your business is not supposed to evolve into someone else’s version of success.
It is supposed to evolve into yours.
You’re building your own thing.
At some point, “it’s working” stops being enough
In the beginning, success is defined easily: Does it work?
And once it does, that’s a huge deal!! 💃🎉🎉
But eventually, something changes.
You stop asking if it’s working, and rather start to ask if it flows.
That’s your next level of creating a unique business that starts to work even better for both you and your clients.
I’m sure if you’re at this stage, you’re noticing a pattern emerging here: Every time you reach one level, another one reveals itself. The next level is starting to tickle your imagination…
